La Pataia – Visit a Dairy in Punta del Este
August 26th, 2010
tamaragab La Pataia is located in the hills surrounding Punta del Este. The drive here alone is beautiful, and when you try their crepes with Dulce de Leche – you will wonder when you can return. Already speaking of food, I am getting a little ahead of myself…..La Pataia is a tourist dairy farm, located a [...]
Climbing a Lighthouse in Uruguay
July 22nd, 2010
tamaragab You may not normally think of a Lighthouse as being a tourist attraction, but there is no doubt, that the best view in town can be seen from the top of the Lighthouse. The relatively small coast of Uruguay is dotted with eleven Lighthouses, of which some of them, you are able to climb to [...]
The 4 top spots to see a Seal in Uruguay
July 18th, 2010
tamaragab Seals are really cute. Before I came to Uruguay, I had only ever seen them before in zoo type places, like Sea World on the Gold Coast in Australia. However, there really is something special, about seeing them swimming around in nature. Uruguay must have the perfect climate for seals, because you can see them all up and down the Coast. There are four places here in Uruguay, when you can guarantee that 99% of the time, you are going to see a seal.
Piriapolis
At the Port in Piriapolis, there is a massive Sea Lion who has his own little jetty that he likes to hang out on. We have seen him there every time we have been to Piriapolis without fail. There are also a number of seals swimming through the port, and when the fishing boats come in, you can see them swimming excitedly around the boat, looking for a free meal.
La Paloma
There are also a few seals in the Port of La Paloma. You also see them there hanging around the boats, especially when the men are filleting the fish. You also have a good chance of seeing Seals at the Bahia near the Lighthouse. We see a lot of seals in this area, especially throughout the winter months. Also throuhout the winter we see a lot of baby seals sunning themselves on the beach – now that is really cute.
Punta del Este
There are a pile of big seals swimming around the Port of Punta del Este. Obviously a lot of the Uruguayan seals have become quite “lazy”, unless they just love the attention from the people. We were at the port at Punta del Este just the other day, and the seals were really showing off for the people. They are used to the people and the boats, and we saw one of them trying to see what was inside the boat – if there were any fresh snacks.
Cabo Polonio
Cabo Polonio houses one of the biggest seal colonies in the World. You will see hundreds of them sunning themselves on the rocks and playing in the water around the lighthouse. They are a one of the big attractions of Cabo Polonio, and they don’t disappoint.

Casapueblo – Art by the Ocean
July 8th, 2010
tamaragab Casapueblo is one of our favourite spots in Punta del Este, and a must when we have visitors and are doing a little travel through Uruguay. We have visited there a few times, and each time we go, it never ceases to amaze us how beautiful this spot is. As you approach Punta del Este [...]
